CTS Christmas In July Festival Offers Fun Competition With Pie & Corn
By Suellen Reitz
Public Affairs Officer, Community Thrift Store
One of the hottest crazed activities on summer days is the game of corn hole… an adult version of bean bag toss. The raised boards with a hole can be seen in parking lots of bars, back yards and even at church events. There is no barrier that keeps it at bay and the fun is nonstop for all ages…and now… Pickens Community Thrift Store has added the game as part of their upcoming Christmas in July Festival…as a cash tournament.
The thrift store is becoming known as a community center for family friendly activities with the multiple events held throughout the year. Each new festival adds an extra element of fun and this family friendly event promises to be the best yet.
The Christmas in July Fest will be held in the front parking lot of the store located at 110 Samaritan Drive, Jasper on July 15th. The store will be open for normal sales with the addition of huge savings on Christmas décor and of course Santa in his Jamacia shorts ready for a photo of a lifetime.
Outside will be full of action between the players on the cornhole courts, live music, kids’ zone with games and bouncy house, free food, and top community leaders on stage with the Pie in The Face fund raiser event. The Pie Recipients will be Deputy Chief of the Sheriff Office, Jeff Hall; Jasper Mayor, Steve Lawrence; and Chairman of Pickens County Commissioners, Kris Stansil. Festival activities will start at noon and continue until a winner is crowned for the Cornhole Tournament. Come cheer on your favorite team or try your skills and compete for the prizes of $500, $250, and $125 for the top players in this double elimination tournament.
Our “Pie Recipients” will be Deputy Chief of the Sheriff Office, Jeff Hall; Jasper Mayor, Steve Lawrence; and Chairman of Pickens County Commissioners, Kris Stansil. The three will compete to see who can raise the most money for the charity recipient “Shop-With-A-Hero” program for underprivileged children of Pickens to buy Christmas gifts. The top earner of funds will receive a ceremonial pie trophy to display proudly. When you see the donation jugs, please give generously. The “pie event” will be on the CTS stage at 2:00 p.m. You don’t want to miss it. A photo opportunity of a lifetime!
Sponsors of the festival are welcome to participate with sponsor levels starting at $25.
